Occidental Grand Papagayo

Travelled 03/10 for 7 nights. We booked through First Choice who were seemingly the only operator in the country going out there. They have now stopped so could have been the last chance to enjoy this fantastic country.
We booked a 2 night taster tour with the holiday and it was well worth it, we stayed on a horse ranch which was massive, very nice accomodation and restaurant. We went horse riding, zip lining trekking through the forest, zip lining, tubing on rapids. We had a guide throughout our stay, Mark, who was brilliant. Fortunately we were in a group of only 6 so we all got to know each other and even when in the hotel we stuck together, I did hear that some others who were in a group of 20 odd didnt have the same experience.
When we got to the Grand we were greeted with a welcome cocktail and very easy friendly check in and were driven to our room with cases, ( about 20 metres).
The hotel was clean and very nice, the pool was large with volley ball and other daily activities. he food was excellent in all restaurants, the buffet was the best I have experienced with a great variety of foods, the snack bar was very good too with the compulsary cheesebuger every day, all cooked fresh to order on the grill.
The Italian A la Carte was amazing, we really felt like we were in a nice restaurant.
The best thing about the hotel was the staff, all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, we had a problem with the door lock and once reported was fixed within 10 minutes.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel although you may never get the chance to experience it.
