He carried with him the Virgin of Loreto and as he placed her image on a wooden cross, adorned with wildflowers, Loreto, the first capital of the Californias, was born. The Sierra La Giganta mountain range, one of the tallest and most spectacular in Baja, overlooks the town of Loreto and creates breathtaking panoramic vistas. We went snorkelling almost every day over the coral reefs, and hiking in the coastal desert on the days we didn't. We saw so many varieties of fish in the ocean I can't begin to name them, whales and dolphins on top of the ocean, and desert wildlife and cactus ashore. I will be back sometime - I've taken a different job this winter, indoors unfortunately.
