“Another very satisfied customer; can't wait to go back”
My wife and I cannot recommend Couples Negril (CN) enough! We recently enjoyed a 7-day/7-night stay in August and found the resort to meet with the accolades other TA posters have written. A synopsis:
TRANSPORT: The run from Montego Bay to CN runs a little under 90 minutes along a two-lane road running along the northern and western coasts. Our driver was great and the trip uneventful with great scenery. The run to the resort includes a brief stop at a wayside with decent bathrooms, a small convenience store and jerk stand. Ganja was discreetly offered for sale, but the seller was cool when I demurred.
ARRIVAL: Very cordial and efficient. The cool towel and bubbly before they show you to your room is a nice touch. The resort orientation at 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM is a good way to learn about the ins and outs and shouldn’t be missed.
RESORT: The resort is stunning overall. The rustic appearance is intentional, unlike some other posts that considered it dated. While there were some small things that needed repairing, the resort is largely in very good condition and well constructed. Everything is within easy walking distance from the main building where the four restaurants, piano bar and main pool are located. We were in the furthest building on the north side of the resort and were but a minute or two walk from everything, especially if we walked along the beachfront. Two additional pools and hot tubs are available if you're looking for a quieter dip. We found the staff to be wonderful overall and very capable of ensuring that you enjoy your stay.
GUEST ROOM: We had a very nice ocean room, with a nice bed and amply sized bathroom. There was plenty of room to store clothes and hooks for hanging beachwear. We found the room to be very clean and nicely made-up every day. No problems with the AC, which was very easy to adjust and quick to kick in a few more degrees if you needed a rapid cool down. One note for the sake others: the satellite TV is great, with WGN, KTLA, WOR, WPIX, a number of the usual cable channels and local TV out of Miami in addition to a couple of Jamaican channels. You're not going to watch TV, but at least now you know what's on!
FOOD & DRINK: Very, very good. The breakfast buffet at Cassava Terrace was a great way to start the day, with American-style breakfast fare augmented by some ever-changing local specialties. The lunch offerings here are also very good, with a great salad bar, fresh pressed sandwiches and a daily grill special. We didn't go to Cassava Terrace for dinner, but heard it was pretty good. We ate at Otaheite, Lychee and Heliconian Grill twice each. The sushi at Lychee is not to be missed and we really enjoyed both of our dinners at Heliconian Grill. Otahiete was good, but maybe not worth the hype. The beach grill was a good option for a quick bite, with an excellent fried snapper sandwich. Heliconian updates its menu every other day, while the other two sit-down restaurants update their’s on more of a weekly basis. Beverage service was very good and the drinks very strong. No difficulties getting your drink on here!
ACTIVITIES: As indicated in some other posts, this is not a nightlife resort. Organized events end at or before 12:00 AM and very little else goes on afterwards. We thought the piano sign-along was a real highlight! It is not at all campy and everyone generally had a good time the times we went. They have thrice-weekly auctions, karaoke, and twice-weekly dances in the evening. All three are okay, but nothing too exciting. Watch for different evening events in the piano bar that are worth checking out. When we there, they did a martini hour one night and a wine tasting with hor'dourves another night. During the day, you can scuba dive all you’d like for no additional charge. They also offer snorkeling, sailing, etc. for no additional cost. My wife thought the scuba was pretty good. The catamaran booze cruise is also included and was a lot of fun.
BEACH: In a word: Awesome! As nice as other posts indicate. The main pool and pool bar are also really nice.
BOTTOM LINE: Couples Negril is just really very nice and a solid four-stars! We had a fantastic trip and will go back without a doubt. If you’re looking for a nice getaway with enough to keep you busy, a great pool and beach and very good food and drink, CN is not to be missed!
