First I'd like to say that all the reviews are correct... it's a huge hill... but my boyfriend and I enjoyed the trek everyday to burn off all the free food.... and the staff did try to give us an non-ocean view room even though we booked one with a view... again the staff fixed the problem when we stated it was incorrect... but again as the other reviews have said I'd save the money... most of the rooms have somewhat of an oceanview and the balcony isn't large enough for you to hang out on the porch anyway.... save the money for adventures.... the hotel, while older is well kept.... when the power goes out due to afternoon thunderstorms, the a/c breakers need to be reset before they will work again.... and the food is nutritous but that's about it... vegetarians beware-my friend couldn't really find much more than rice and beans to eat...
The people and staff are really what made this trip fabulous... the majority of the people vacationing at this hotel are from the UK through a tour company that gets them such a great deal that you'll find the hotel for two weeks and plane ride is the same price as your vacation for one week without the plane ride.... but sharing there views and meeting people from across the world opens your eyes.... and we all had a great time talking and enjoying our differences.
The staff was great... anything you need they want to help... As far as the beach and the kayak etc... those are pretty much a bust..... the beach is barely existent in the afternooons due to the tide. And the beach club strands you until the boat comes back in the afternoon.... The kayaks are only available for an hour- so you really can't get anywhere before you have to be back....
Rereading this review it looks like I'm complaining.... it was a great time and I would go back... but it's what you make of it- it's not the four seasons.... but once you get past any built up expectations... you realize that your in a pretty cool place with some pretty neat things going on....
The really cool thing is the monkeys.... totally make the trip.... i really wish i could have taken one home with me....
As far as location you are in the middle of no where and if sitting around the pool for a whole week isn't what you have in mind.... plan on using this as your home base and get out there with some tours.... I suggest Avispa's Adventures Tour Company.... they are fabulous!!!! They treat you like royalty and really care about each customer... Tell Amy that I sent you...
